 Tour De Cure 2009

Tour De Cure 2009 - See this report from event organiser Geoff Coombes. Also check out the video - really good insight into this tough challenge to help cure cancer

We did it.............we safely and successfully completed our 3rd Tour de Cure, this time riding from Brisbane to Cairns. 1555km over 10 days. It wasn’t easy that’s for sure. Day 2 was a whopping 265km from Noosa to Bundaberg. In our first 4 days we rode 730km, which is more than any of us could possibly do in training given we all work full time. Good food, great support, a solid commitment and effort from each and every rider and support crew, helped us not only complete the Tour de Cure, but in the process go way beyond what we had hoped to fundraise this year. To date we have raised $824,812. To those of you who have helped this year.............WE THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts.

If you feel like getting a taste of the journey, please grab a cuppa and watch this clip from this year’s tour.
http://drop.io/jcvgp2g
Please feel free to pass this on.

This year’s ride gave us the opportunity to really make a difference in the communities we visited.

At each nightly event we not only presented our category jersey winners but we handed out to all those attending, a TDC Information and gift pack, filled with lots of goodies and great information from our charity partners. Did you know that 60% of Cancers are preventable? That itself is a cure................ J

The Tour de Cure has raised $1.7million since we began in 2007. Not bad for a bunch of lycra wearing, latte drinking, community minded individuals. We are passionate about making a difference and putting an end to this disease.

If anyone would still like to donate it would be greatly appreciated. Now for those savvy folk out there, if you make a donation to the Tour de Cure before June 30th you can claim it back on July 1st. We are hoping to raise in excess of $850,000 this year and will be working with each of our charity partners to make sure the money takes us that little bit closer to finding a cure.

If you can help please click on this link and know that your kind donation is making a difference and one day we will find a cure for cancer.

https://secure.tourdecure.com.au/tour/2009/member/52/geoff-coombes#donationForm

Cheers and thanks for being a part of the movement to find a cure for cancer.

Champion System to Become Official Uniform Supplier to IHRA

Champion System, the New York-based full service custom apparel and accessory manufacturer, has entered into an agreement with the International Hot Rod Association to become the sanctioning body’s “Official Uniform Supplier.” The company has also acquired title sponsorship rights to IHRA’s seven-event 2009 Sportsman Nationals schedule.

“This is a perfect fit for us and an ideal situation for Champion System,” IHRA director of contingency and inside sales Kurt Oberholtzer said. “They have a product with outstanding quality that is very affordable, something our race teams will be able to take advantage of. Plus, they are an active company with aggressive leadership who wanted to branch out from their traditional role in cycling to brand their company in motor sports applications. We’re pleased they chose IHRA as their platform to do this.”

Champion System president Scott Kaylin thinks his company will blend in with IHRA immediately.

“IHRA wants to have a professional image as a company and we’re all about that,” Kaylin said. “This partnership is a very good fit.”

Kaylin has specific reasons he wanted to work with IHRA, citing Champion System’s background and the company’s roots.

“We started our business in cycling so we’re new to motor sports, but they are very similar in that both cycling and motor sports, especially drag racing, are sponsor-driven,” he said. “It’s a unique challenge to incorporate multiple sponsors into a uniform, but this is a challenge we have been meeting for a long time with our cycling background. Our transition into drag racing should be relatively seamless. This is a perfect fit for us.”

Champion System will provide IHRA officials with the uniforms they will be wearing at all 2009 Nitro Jam national events, Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am events and all Champion System Sportsman Nationals presented by VP Racing Fuels events. The company will also be looking to build a client base consisting of IHRA competitors…particularly at the sportsman level.

“We wanted to get involved with IHRA because of their dedication and attention to the sportsman drag racer,” Kaylin said. “Because of our business model and experience we will be able to offer affordable garments and uniforms to the sportsman and professional teams. We want to make the sportsman racers look and feel like professionals when it comes to what they wear in competition.”

And we immediately received this response from one motorsports company:

Thank You Champion System for your recent decision to become Title Sponsor of IHRA's Sportsman Nationals.  In this day of scaled back services, you have awaken our Team's spirit by supporting Sportsman Drag Racing.

I read the IHRA web site posting and honestly, I had my doubts as to how much savings you all could give the Sportsman racer.  Well, after viewing your web site and prices, all I can say is "Wow, you got to be kidding me!"  Those prices are the best I've seen in years.  We spent more for the uniform shirts we have now and they are not that good looking.

You all will be hearing from us soon!
